PhD in Language & Literacies Education

Are you interested in the relationships of literacies in language or language in literacies across communities, societies, instructional environments and informal learning settings? In this program, you will deepen your knowledge of a wide-range of curriculum, instruction, learning and policies for education Indigenous, official, international/heritage, and sign languages, as well as in first and additional language and literacies.

Research areas include, but are not limited to, studies of language learning; methodology and organization of classroom instruction; language and/or literacy policies; assessment and program evaluation; development of multiliteracies, and social justice issues related to plurilingualism and cultural diversity.

Designed for practicing professionals, the flexible-time PhD option enables students to continue working while pursuing their studies. Flexible-time students are self-funded. .

Funding details

91±¬ÁÏ offers a 91±¬ÁÏ Graduate Funding Package to students in their first four years of a PhD program, excluding the flexible-time PhD.

91±¬ÁÏ's Graduate Funding Package covers the cost of tuition, and helps offset other living expenses. Last year, awards averaged around $25,000 per eligible student.
