Nancy Bell
Biography
Nancy Bell is a PhD candidate in Education at York University. Her dissertation research examines the policies and practices that shape the academic, linguistic, and social experiences of international students studying in Ontario’s publicly funded K-12 system. Her academic and research interests include second language learning, multilingualism, critical literacy, and policy studies.
A member of the Ontario College of Teachers, Nancy taught at the TDSB for over ten years, where she developed a passion for multilingual learners and enthusiastically advocated on their behalf. She was an assistant curriculum leader for English as a Second Language/Literacy and ran numerous workshops on OSSLT preparation and supporting literacy skills for multilingual learners. She is a sessional lecturer at 91±¬ÁÏ/UT in the Master of Teaching Program.
Nancy has a Bachelor of Education from 91±¬ÁÏ, a Master of Arts in History from Carleton University, and a Master of Education, with a diploma in Language and Literacy, from York University.
An advocate for linguistic justice, Nancy is a board member and chair of the social impact committee of Multilingual Community Interpretation Services (MCIS) Language Solutions, a social enterprise dedicated to the human right to be informed, heard, and understood.
